Glow in the dark art - Artist Update #14

The last few weeks of summer always feel so hectic to me. There’s a bit of desperation to pack the most fun possible into the final days before the kids go back to school. We’ve gone fossil hunting, sailing, hiking and more. I still managed to get a little bit of creative time in though.

BLINKY THE FRANKENFISH

I had a ton of fun painting the Blinky portrait. It was so freeing to just make something ridiculous for fun. My friend said she wanted him to glow in the dark and she literally drove me to the craft store and made me buy glow in the dark paints. 😂 I’m not done with the glow in the dark layers yet but I’m happy with how its turning out so far.

The glow in the dark paints are fairly challenging to use because they are all the same milky translucent color. You basically have to paint a few layers of clear paint and then let it dry, put the painting in the sun to charge the glow colors and then go into the dark and take a pic to figure out what needs to be touched up. Go make your touchups as good as possible by looking at what’s off on the picture and then try to paint the same spot on the painting. Repeat. It’s quite a process.

The next time I use these I would like to figure out how to layer the glow paints better to get some more gradual shading in the glowy version. I love learning how to use a new supply!

What do you think of Blinky? Please comment below and let me know! It should only take you a minute.
