BACK TO THE PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING…
In last weeks’ newsletter I said I would fill you in on a few of the changes happening over here in Brittany Land. I know I’ve taken a bit of a detour from my usual original acrylic paintings and prints lately. There are a few reasons for this. First, I really wanted to make my art accessible to more people. I love that by putting my creations on mugs, magnets, earrings and more, it opens up a whole other group of other folks that can benefit from my artistic awesomeness 😜🤣😅 Ok, no more emojis, I promise.
Another huge factor is the current international climate and the challenges facing small businesses that rely on foreign trade to remain competitive. When the administration enacted the super high tariffs a few months ago, it dramatically affected my business immediately. I suddenly lost the supplier that made the charms for my custom earrings. They literally just stopped shipping to the US over night. Other items I use regularly for my shop doubled in price. To help avoid these interruptions in the future, I’m attempting to learn to make as much in house as possible so I only have to rely on imports for the most basic raw materials.
To that end, a lot of my creative energy over the last few months has gone to figuring out how to print my own fine art prints, put my art on mugs, do heat transfers onto canvas bags and, yes, make custom charms for my earrings =) Here are some of my initial attempts using shrinky dinks, glitter, resin and, of course, my beloved Bedazzler. I’m very proud of them for having just started. I plan to get them up in the shop by next week!
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I hope to see you at the Ewing Summer Arts Kickoff this weekend!
