I’ve been stuck in a creative rut.

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut?
Recently, I have felt like I had hit a plateau with painting and I haven’t been making noticeable progress in my skill level. All my art was looking the same and I was bored. Some days I didn’t even want to create anything. That is COMPLETELY out of character for me. I just felt like my creativity was in a rut.
I knew it was time for me to try something new. I floundered around for a bit with no idea what to do. Then I decided that I just had to sit down and do some NEW art. This is always hard for me because I don’t enjoy being “bad” at something when I try a new skill.
However, I just kept repeating this this to myself:
YOU CAN’T GET GOOD AT A NEW SKILL UNLESS YOU STICK TO IT THROUGH THE “I SUCK AT THIS” PHASE.
My boys have been away on adventures for the last 2 weeks so I decided to use my extra time to get my slump sorted out. I chose to work on my skills in Procreate on my iPad. I watched a lot of YouTube and Skillshare videos and learned a ton of new digital art techniques. It’s been gratifying to start working with a new medium and see so much progress so quickly. I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn but I’m super happy with my progress after only a short time. Here are a couple of the pieces I’ve made over the last couple weeks.
Do you ever get stuck and not have the motivation to get started again? What do you do to get yourself moving forward in this situation? Let me know in the comments below =)
